Hi Barb,

November 29, 2009

I hope all is well with you! As Augustus has just passed his 16 week birthday, I wanted to send some updated pictures. He seems to be doing really well--growing and getting stronger every day! He had his 16 week needles on Thursday and weighed about 47 pounds then, so I suspect we're closing in on 50 now! LOL He lost his two front teeth yesterday, which is pretty cute and just in time for the Christmas song! LOL We will be really happy when the rest of the puppy teeth follow suit, he is learning 'no bite' but sometimes he just can't help himself, and they are nasty little daggers!

He starts puppy kindergarten tomorrow evening. I am a little worried about his relative size and the fact that he is used to playing rough with Bree--it should be interesting when he meets all the other puppies. I'll let you know how it goes! :) He learned to sit on command basically on his own--I think he picked it up from the older dogs, he likes to copy everything they do!--so I'm hoping he'll catch on pretty well to the other lessons in class. He is also doing very well with house training--I hesitate to even say it out loud, but it has been a couple of weeks since there was an accident. It was only ever peeing that he struggled with, and he's always been perfect in his crate, so it's been much smoother than I anticipated!

Last weekend he made a road trip with us to Cape Breton and it went very smoothly, especially considering it's 16 hours each way! He slept most of the time in the car or would toss around and chew his bone when he was restless. He caused quite a stir at every Tim Horton's parking lot we stopped in on the way down and back, let me tell you!:) He gets SO excited when he sees new people, in his mind it seems everyone is a friend he just hasn't met yet! We were bombarded with the ever popular, "Look at his feet!" and "How much does he eat?!" and "How big will he get!?" It was great for everyone at home to get to see him while he is still 'small' too, and of course they all thought he was absolutely beautiful. We are very proud of our smart, handsome boy and loved being able to show him off.

These are some pictures I snapped this afternoon. I tried to get some to show his body shape, which is tough because he doesn't often stand still very long. There are also some of his favourite pastimes--chewing sticks and chasing Bree! We are constantly digging wood debris out of his mouth! If he can't find anything on the ground, he attacks the bushes! LOL You can see in the first picture that he has two very long, white eyebrow hairs that hang down over each eye. I'm not sure if this is 'normal'? They are kind of funny looking and seemed to pop up overnight.

As I am writing to you, he is under my feet at my desk, snoring away. I can't tell you enough how much we love him to bits. He is just the nicest, sweetest, funniest little guy--he is everything we hoped for in a Saint puppy and more. The whole time we were home all we heard is, "He is so good," and "What a nice dog." That says an awful lot when the 'dog' in question was just a 15 week old baby, with lots still to learn.

Take care,

Tammy
